Dawn of the Decadent

1 Jan

In the last few months, I have become sort of food obsessed. It’s all I read about, it’s what I think about for fun, and I managed to get an almost entirely food related Christmas and birthday. I’m trying to remember how it started. Cooking at least once a week was on my 2010 resolution list. While that didn’t necessarily work out so well, I began to take steps in the foodie direction.I got myself a CSA subscription (which I rarely used). I started looking at cookbooks at the library. I started to be a little more adventurous when we went out to eat. Then I saw the Julie and Julia movie. I hated Julie. I thought she was so terrible. I loved Julia. Then I saw an episode of Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations. It was really good. I had been hearing about him for years and so I decided to give him a try. I picked up a copy of Kitchen Confidential. I liked it. I’ll have to get around to posting a review. I went around looking for his next book, but I couldn’t find one softcover – so in the meantime I decided to read Julia Child’s My Life in France. Fabulous. Who knew she was such an awesome firebrand of a lady! After that I decided to get the Mastering the Art of French Cooking and learn to make some basic stuff. After reading about Julia trying to learn it – I had to give it a go (not all obsessive Julie-style, just normal style).Christmas brought me amazing cookie sheets, measuring cups, an uber breadmaker, the beloved Mastering set, tons more cookbooks and kitchen gadgets – and alot of promise!

So here I am, now reading 3 food books simutaneously and getting ready to make it a year of food. Here’s to it being tasty.
